AAESA Awards

  • Secretary of the Year

    This award honors and recognizes secretaries/administrative assistants for their hard work and dedication.  Without them, our school systems and school offices could not run efficiently, and we want to show them our appreciation.

    Secretaries/Administrative Assistances who meet the following criteria can be nominated:

    • Have at least 3 years of service in a school or system office.
    • Support the vision, mission, goals, and beliefs of the school system.
    • Promote goodwill among fellow co-workers by maintaining a positive attitude and providing excellent customer service.
    • Exhibit a good work ethic by being punctual in attendance and adhering to scheduled work hours.
    • Perform work duties as assigned in an exemplary manner.
    • Participate in professional development to improve work knowledge and skills.

    CLAS Secretary of the Year will be recognized at the closing luncheon at the 2018 Secretaries Conference in Birmingham, AL on December 5, 2018.  They will also be recognized for their exemplary performance on the CLAS website.
     
    Nominations must be received by October 22, 2018.

  • National Outstanding Assistant Principal

    This award is available to all elementary/middle school principals who:

    1. Must have been an active assistant principal for at least two years

    2. Demonstrates exceptional leadership in a particular school program; is  respected by students, colleagues, parents, and the community at large; and sets high expectations for school staff and students.

    District nominations must be made by November 1.  District nominee submits application to CLAS office by January 4.  Winner selected by AAESA Executive Board at the Spring Planning Conference.

  • National Distinguished Principal (NDP)

    This award is available to all elementary/middle school principals who:

    1. Online principal for at least 5 years.

    2. Demonstrates strong commitment to principalship by active membership in professional organizations

    3. Actively participates in community activities.

    4. Gives evidence of outstanding leadership skills that benefit a local school program.

    5. Provides service or achievements beyond what is expected in the usual school program.

    District nominations must be made by November 1.  District nominee submits application to CLAS office by January 4.  Winner selected by AAESA Executive Board at the Spring Planning Conference.

  • Marie Taylor & Dr. Michael Carr Scholarship

    AAESA recognizes the need to prepare qualified persons to become elementary/middle school administrators.  To assist in fulfilling this need, AAESA offers a $1,000 scholarship to enable a current Alabama educator to pursue a degree or certification in elementary/middle school administration.  To qualify, an individual must be working on initial certification in the specified field.

  • Glenys Mason NAESP Convention Scholarship

    This scholarship is available to AAESA members who have never attended a National Association of Elementary School Principals annual convention.  The scholarship is awarded to pay for the expense of attending an NAESP Convention.  The selection will be made at the Fall Instructional Leadership Conference during the AAESA Fall Conference General Business Meeting.

  • Bill Miller, Sr. Friend of Education Award

    This award is for an individual who is NOT in the field of education, but who has made considerable contributions to education over the years.

    District nominations must be submitted to AAESA by May 1.  District nominations must be submitted in writing to the AAESA Executive Board at the CLAS Convention in June.  Selection is made by the AAESA Executive Board at the CLAS Convention. Presentation is made at the Fall Instructional Leadership Conference in November.


  • Truman M. Pierce Leadership Award

    This award is given to an educator who has made outstanding contributions beyond expectations which advance the direction of education in Alabama.

    District nominations must be made by May 1.  District nominations must be submitted in writing to the AAESA Executive Board at the CLAS Convention in June.  Winner is selected by the AAESA Executive Board at the CLAS Convention in June.  Presentation is made at the AAESA Fall Conference in November.


  • CLAS Leadership Award

    The CLAS Leadership Award is presented annually to a CLAS member who has exhibited leadership in his or her affiliate as well as at the state level. Award nominations are made by each of the eleven CLAS affiliates and judging is conducted by members of the CLAS Awards Committee. The winner and other nominees are recognized and presented with a plaque during the CLAS Annual Convention.

  • Middle School Principal of the Year

    Jostens SponsorThe Middle School Principal of the Year Award is sponsored by the Alabama Association of Secondary School Principals (AASSP), the Alabama Association of Middle School Principals (AAMSP), the Alabama Association of Elementary School Administrators (AAESA), and the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).

    The annual recognition of a middle school principal is sponsored by AASSP, AAMSP, AAESA and NASSP. The winner receives recognition at the state and national levels.  Applicants must have at least three (3) years experience as a principal and be a member of CLAS.  The state winner is also encouraged to apply for the National Middle School Principal of the Year award.
