Montgomery, Ala – January 24, 2020: Dr. Paul V. Wilson, executive director of the Council for Leaders in Alabama Schools (CLAS), was honored at the fifth annual Black History Program and Luncheon at Malachi Wilkerson Middle School. The program’s theme was “Unsung Heroes in Pursuit of Human Civil Rights.”

The “Unsung Hero” award is given to individuals in the area of civic leadership through criteria such as being a pillar of the community, serves as a role model, acts as an agent of change, and operates as a servant leader. Individuals chosen for this award represent an array of professional experiences that impact the community at large along with the field of education in a positive way.

Dr. Wilson was nominated for the award by Malachi Wilkerson Middle School Principal Davida Hill-Johnson. Wilson was nominated for the immediate impact he has had on the CLAS organization and students throughout the state through various lenses including legislation and advocacy, professional learning, leadership programs, conferences, committees, etc. Award winners are selected by a committee.

“Dr. Vic Wilson serves as a catalyst for change and a motivator of providing an array of platforms to cultivate leadership throughout the state of Alabama to optimize learning for all,” said Davida Hill Johnson, principal of Malachi Wilkerson Middle School and the individual who nominated Wilson for the award.
