Andrea Dennis Named 2019 Alabama Middle School Principal of the Year

Mobile, Ala:  Andrea Dennis, principal of Scarborough Middle School in the Mobile County Public School System, has been named 2019 Alabama Middle School Principal of the Year by the Alabama Association of Secondary School Principals (AASSP).

Andrea Dennis began her educational career at Theodore High School where she was a science instructor, achievement specialist, and assistant principal. She is a graduate of C.F. Vigor High School in Prichard, AL. Andrea earned her undergraduate degree at Xavier University of Louisiana where her major was biology and her minor was chemistry. She earned a graduate degree in secondary science education and certification in Educational Administration at the University of South Alabama.

Her award was announced during a school assembly January 16. The announcement was a staged surprise. The staff at Scarborough Middle School and Mobile County Public School System were invited to bring guests and family members of Mrs. Dennis to be a part of the award presentation.

“Mrs. Dennis is a phenomenal leader, and she is very deserving to be selected as the 2019 Alabama Middle School Principal of the Year,” stated Dr. Vic Wilson, AASSP Executive Director

The Alabama Middle School Principal of the Year Award is sponsored by the Alabama Association of Secondary School Principals, Curriculum Associates, and Interior Elements. As winner of the Alabama Middle School Principal of the year, Mrs. Dennis will receive an office makeover compliments of Interior Elements.

Dennis will be recognized at the Awards Luncheon during the CLAS Convention on June 11, 2019, at the Montgomery Renaissance.  The CLAS Annual Summer Convention is the largest gathering of school leaders in the state of Alabama.  She will also be recognized at the AASSP/AAMSP Fall Conference in November 2019.

The Alabama Association of Secondary School Principals is an affiliate association of the Council for Leaders in Alabama Schools (CLAS).  CLAS is an umbrella association that serves ten different affiliates comprised of Alabama’s public school administrators.  CLAS is dedicated to providing the framework to connect dedicated school administrators and other successful leaders with a network for professional growth and support.  For more information, visit www.clasleaders.org.
