Pike Road, Ala:  David Sikes, principal of Pike Road High School has been named District 3 High School Principal of the Year sponsored by American Fidelity.

“I am honored and humbled by this distinction of representing District 3 as High School Principal of the Year.  More importantly, I am thankful for the opportunity to represent the students, staff and community of Pike Road High School.  During my tenure, we have all worked tirelessly to create a culture of student ownership over their learning, establish a mentoring program that benefits our learners and staff and develop positive relationships within the community. This selection is validation of the work we are doing and would not be possible without the support of those around me," said David Sikes.

“Pike Road has outstanding educators, and David Sikes is a great example of that. David leads with compassion and care for his learners and lead learners. His experience, education, and servant heart make him an exceptional leader and a special part of the Pike Road family.” said Dr. Charles Ledbetter, Pike Road City Schools Superintendent.

Sikes was interviewed by a Principal of the Year selection committee at the 2018 AASSP/AAMSP Fall Conference in November and was selected as one of three finalists. The other two 2019 High School Principal of the Year finalists are Dr. Chad Holden of Muscle Shoals High School in Muscle Shoals, AL;  and Dr. Travis Schrimsher of Athens High School in Athens, AL. One overall winner will be chosen as the High School Principal of the Year.  The High School Principal of the Year will be announced at the beginning of December. The 2019 Principal of the Year will represent Alabama in the National Principal of the Year program sponsored by National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).

The Alabama High School Principal of the Year Award is sponsored by the Alabama Association of Secondary School Principals and American Fidelity.

Thank you to American Fidelity for their continued support and recognition of outstanding Alabama public school administrators.
