Athens, Ala: Dr. Travis Schrimsher, principal of Athens High School has been named District 8 High School Principal of the Year sponsored by American Fidelity.
Dr. Schrimsher has been in the field of education since 1998. During his time in education he has been a social science teacher, two-time state championship football coach, assistant principal, and principal. He has served six years in an administrative role. He earned his Ed.D. and M.S. in Educational Leadership from Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, Tennessee; completed graduate studies at Francis Marion University in Florence, South Carolina; and a B.S. Ed. in Social Science from Athens State University.
"It is truly an honor being selected. I am blessed to work with and for an outstanding student body, faculty, and administrative team here at Athens High School,” said Dr. Schrimsher.
Dr. Schrimsher was interviewed by a Principal of the Year selection committee at the 2018 AASSP/AAMSP Fall Conference in November and was selected as one of three finalists. The other two High School Principal of the Year finalists are David Sikes of Pike Road High School in Pike Road, AL; and Dr. Chad Holden of Muscle Shoals High School in Muscle Shoals, AL. One overall winner will be chosen as the High School Principal of the Year. The High School Principal of the Year will be announced at the beginning of December. The 2019 Principal of the Year will represent Alabama in the National Principal of the Year program sponsored by National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).
The Alabama High School Principal of the Year Award is sponsored by the Alabama Association of Secondary School Principals and American Fidelity.
