Affiliate Spotlight - AAESA

Spotlighting the Alabama Association of Elementary School Administrators (AAESA)

Since its beginning, the Council for Leaders in Alabama Schools (CLAS) has served multiple affiliates representing a gamut of public school or school system leaders.  One of these affiliates is the Alabama Association of Elementary School Administrators (AAESA).

AAESA is a professional organization whose members are dedicated to serve as a voice for elementary principals and assistant principals in Alabama. In addition to providing professional learning opportunities, the association provides valuable opportunities for networking with other elementary administrators. The association had 615 members last year.

The association awards scholarships each year to an administrator attending their first national conference and teacher leaders going back to work on administrative certification.  In addition, AAESA coordinates Alabama’s representative for National Distinguished Principal and Elementary Assistant Principal of the Year selections each year.

The membership voted at the CLAS convention to change from requiring membership in NAESP to allowing members to choose the national membership as an option.

Please remember that you need to add NAESP to your form if you want to continue with the NAESP membership.  If you did not add it, you can call the CLAS office and they can add it to your form.  Please make sure that all elementary administrators know of this change.  Many elementary administrators have selected other affiliates in CLAS to join instead of AAESA.  We hope to get them back as AAESA members this year.

Frances Finney, president of AAESA and the principal at the Grantswood Community School in Jefferson County Schools said “Our CLAS organization is dedicated to bringing our leaders in education together to assist us in being better stewards for Alabama children.  The Professional Development focuses on classroom instruction, safety in schools, leadership, mentoring, and even mental health issues.  Other benefits include national association affiliation, insurance, discounts, PLU credit & much more!  As President of AAESA, I encourage every administrator to be an active member in CLAS and utilize all the member benefits offered. “
