Active membership consists of persons employed in the administration of finance and business services of the school or school system, including such areas as finance, accounting, management information, data processing, purchasing, warehousing, capital projects, facilities maintenance, transportation, food service, office management, payroll and personnel management.  Active membership also includes personnel of colleges, universities, and the State Department of Education working in school business services.

The objectives of the Alabama Association of School Business Officials are:

  • To promote and establish the highest standards of ethics, efficiency, and economy in all matters pertaining to school business.
  • To promote the study, analysis, and dissemination of the most efficient policies and practices related to school business administration.
  • To encourage professional development and improvement of persons engaged in school business management.
  • To promote the interest of college students in the field of school business administration.
  • To disseminate to members and others the results of research and other information that may be used to improve school business administration.
  • To cooperate with any organization for the betterment of public education.

School administration and management is one of the largest corporate endeavors in the community and one of the most vital members of the educational leadership team is the school business official.  A successful school business official must have certain knowledge and skills, whether gained through experience, formal education, and/or professional development.  Professional development for school business officials is at the very core of AASBO's mission.

To promote and honor the profession, AASBO provides quality professional development growth opportunities that will assist and enhance the performance of school business officials through the AASBO Certification Program for School Business Officials.  The program is supported by the Alabama State Department of Education and the University of Alabama College of Continuing Studies.

AASBO is an affiliate of the Association of School Business Officials International (ASBOI) and the Southern Association of School Business Officials (SASBO).
