Demica Sanders Hired as CLAS Professional Learning Director
The Council for Leaders in Alabama Schools (CLAS) has selected Mrs. Demica Sanders as the Director of Professional Learning effective July 1, 2018. Sanders currently serves as the Superintendent of Midfield City Schools where she has served since 2012.
Sanders has 17 years of experience in education. She has served in positions ranging from special education teacher to superintendent. She has worked in the Jefferson County and Birmingham City school systems. In her career, she has designed and evaluated district-wide professional development programs, served as a member of the Alabama Council for Leadership Development (ACLD), collaborated with local and state-wide interest groups, served as an adjunct professor at UAB, and presented at various education related conferences.
“I am excited about the opportunity to be part of the CLAS team. I have spent the greater part of my career planning professional development and I look forward to continuing that tradition by ensuring that CLAS remains a premiere professional development organization,” said Sanders.
“This is an important hire for CLAS,” said CLAS Executive Director, Dr. Vic Wilson, “professional learning opportunities are the most sought after service offered by CLAS, Mrs. Sanders is an outstanding administrator with a genuine concern for education. I am confident that she has the initiative and stamina to direct and implement the professional learning activities and standards for CLAS.”
Sanders graduated with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice in 1995 from University of Alabama. In 2007, she completed an education specialist degree from University of Alabama at Birmingham, and is currently working on her doctorate in educational leadership at Samford University.
