Spotlighting the Alabama Child Nutrition Directors (ACND)
Since its beginning, the Council for Leaders in Alabama Schools (CLAS) has served multiple affiliates representing a gamut of public school or school system leaders. One of these affiliates is the Alabama Child Nutrition Directors (ACND).
ACND supports the professional growth of Alabama's Child Nutrition Directors and promotes the quality and integrity of Child Nutrition programs. The unique professional learning opportunities for ACND members offered through CLAS are not offered elsewhere. The training helps members grow in administrative skills such as human resources management and awareness of legal issues. Most directors agree that human resources can be tougher to manage than USDA nutritional regulations. The workshops offered by ACND and CLAS are a valuable resource in helping CNP directors become effective leaders.
President of ACND, Kelley Wassermann, said "Child Nutrition is an integral supporting program of public education. We nourish hungry bodies so teachers can nourish hungry minds. As directors of child nutrition programs, ACND is proud to have a seat at the same table with other administrative associations in CLAS, working together on behalf of Alabama's school children and their leaders."
CLAS Executive Director, Dr. Vic Wilson, said “School Nutrition Directors provide an essential component to educating all students. They provide healthy fuel allowing students to focus on learning.”
