Decatur, Ala: Theodoria Jackson, principal of Somerville Road Elementary School in the Decatur City School System has been selected as the AAESA District I nominee for Alabama’s National Distinguished Principal Award sponsored by Classworks.
“It is an honor to have been selected as the nominee for National Distinguished Principal from District 1. My goal is to be a dedicated advocate for public education. I believe that every child has the right to a good education. Since I began my career in education 21 years ago, I have developed a strong sense of pride for creating a culture that is nurturing and filled with excitement for learning. Leading Somerville Road Elementary and serving as a role model cannot be taken lightly. I strongly believe that all children are capable of learning if they have the proper motivation and direction from their teachers. As a school administrator, I am committed to helping students, teachers and parents develop strategies and techniques to help students reach their full potential,” stated Jackson.
“Dr. Jackson is an outstanding principal, and a role model for all administrators. Dr. Jackson makes decisions based on what is best for her students. She has high expectations for her faculty and staff, and she constantly praises them for the work that they do. Decatur City Schools is extremely proud of Dr. Jackson, and the leadership she provides for our district. We are thrilled that she has been recognized for her hard work. Dr. Jackson will be a great ambassador for District 1 and our state,” stated Decatur City Schools Superintendent, Michael Douglas.
All district nominees will be reviewed and narrowed to three by a panel of judges. The top three nominees will have a school visit in February 2018. One overall winner will be chosen and named Alabama’s National Distinguished Principal in spring 2018. The NDP will represent Alabama in the National Principal of the Year program sponsored by National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) in October 2018.
